COVID-19 2020 Update

COVID-19 2020 Update

The following are the precautions I will be following, based the guidelines suggested by Worksafe BC and the BC government.

  1. I will continue to thoroughly disinfect common touch points (ie keys, benches, handles).

2. Only 2 persons will be allowed in the studio at a time and will be required to sanitize their hands upon entry and exit of studio.

3. Instead of writing in the student’s notebook as I do normally, I will be typing out practice plans and notes. These will be either printed or emailed immediately after the lesson.

4. Face masks will be required by all students and parents. I will be wearing a mask at all times

5. Bathroom will be closed.

6. Students are asked to cancel their lesson if they are showing any signs of illness or have been in contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19. If an individual arrives at the lesson exhibiting any symptoms including coughing or sneezing for any reason including allergies, they will be turned away. This is for the safety of myself, my other students, and their families.

My hope is that with these guidelines, students and their families can feel comfortable with continuing their lessons.

Why Learn Piano?

Learning the piano is a great way to start your appreciation for music.  Piano is an excellent base instrument that can lead to further development of other instruments.  But, many do not realize that there are additional benefits that don’t even relate to music at all.
Think of what a student is going through when he or she is playing the piano.  They are reading two lines of music simultaneously, using their vision, hearing, arms, legs, feet, and all ten fingers.  Their brain gives each body part different instructions, all at the same time.  The complexity of the processes is quite incredible.  Coordination between mind and muscles is developed.  Improvement of this develops other skills: sports, handwriting, reading, and other life skills.
Another benefit is helping the student, especially younger ones develop their concentration. Accomplishing the above tasks is no simple matter and requires special focus from the student.  Once a song or goal has been achieved, a feeling of accomplishment motivates the individual to continue with their efforts.
Yes, the piano is more than an instrument.  It is a educational tool that encourages development and challenges adults in new ways and assists in maintaining a sharp mind.
